No matter where and how you bet, it’s vital you can do so safely and securely. The UK Gambling Commission has set out a number of guidelines and regulations that all betting sites must adhere to in order to protect their customers.
Mr. Play provide this security to their customers in a number of ways. Under the Responsible Gambling tab, you’ll find a range of articles and guides that can help you stay in control of your betting.
Amongst these guides you’ll find the account restriction section. Here, there are a number of tools you can utilise. The first of these is the Deposit Limits section. You have the option to set a limit to the amount you can deposit in a selected period of time – daily, weekly or monthly. Once you have reached this limit, you’ll be unable to deposit any more funds until the time period is up.
The second tool is Time Out Period. If you feel you’re not in control of your betting, you can ask the operator to suspend your account for a selected period of time. Self-exclusion is a similar tool, where you can also cancel your account if you wish.
You’re also able to set up time limits and play limits, as well as reality checks that remind you of how long you’ve been logged in to your account.
We highly recommend that you read the Responsible Gambling guides and consider using any or all of the tools at your disposal.

While traditional betting is arguably still the most popular way to place wagers, the rise in live betting has certainly been explosive. Almost every bookmaker offers live odds across a wide range of sports. Some bettors prefer to bet on in-play markets, rather than pre-match odds. There are also those who combine the two to try and find more value in their betting.
There are positive and negative aspects to betting in-play. Take a look at the table below, where we display some of the pros and cons.
There are plenty of in-play options available at Mr. Play. In addition to esports, which are prevalent, customers can also bet on live football, tennis, basketball, handball and rugby to name just a handful.
For our research into Mr. Play, we analysed the Premier League game between Manchester City and Brentford. Pre-match, City were 1.13 to win the game, Brentford were priced at 12.90 and the draw was 7.65. This gives a pre-match margin of 9.32%. There were 136 pre-match markets available before the game started. In-play, there were 73 markets available. In terms of odds, City were 1.44 to win, Brentford 5.50 and the draw was 4.75. Note that in this game, Brentford scored after 26 seconds! Therefore the change in odds is understandable. This gives an in-play margin of 8.68%.
Currently, there is no live streaming of any sports available at Mr. Play.
The live betting facility available at Mr. Play is, well, pretty average really. There are some attractive aspects to it, such as the statistics feature and in-game animations, but it just feels a little below par, especially compared to other sites we’ve researched. It certainly doesn’t compete with 10bet’s Match Tracker or the in-play service available at AllBritishCasino, for example.
A common theme during our Mr. Play research is that they’re an average Sportsbook. The same can be said of their mobile app. It’s easy enough to place bets, loading times are reasonable but it’s just lacking a little finesse and fluidity.
Above, we spoke about the attractive aspects of their desktop in-play facility, featuring animations and match statistics. These don’t seem to be available using the mobile app. It just feels quite cramped and busy.
It’s an app that does what it says on the tin, but certainly doesn’t have the wow factor and any kind of real enjoyment.

Having used both platforms to place bets and navigate through the site, it’s the desktop site that wins out for us. Mr. Play have tried to fit in everything the desktop site has into its app, but it has led to it being incredibly cramped. Ultimately, the app hasn’t been able to feature everything anyway, with the lack of in-play statistic and tracker screens non-existent.
If you’re just looking for an app to place bets with, the Mr. Play app could be worth considering. For us, though, the desktop site is much cleaner and makes it easier to look for bets and markets

While there are plenty of promotions for existing Casino customers, the same unfortunately can’t be said for Sports bettors at Mr. Play. There is a distinct lack of promotions for existing customers. At the time of writing, there was only one promo available, which we’ll talk about shortly.

The one existing customer promotion is actually a pretty decent one. PlayBoost can give you a boost on your winning Acca’s, up to 77%. To qualify, place a 4+ Acca with minimum odds of 1.5 and you could receive a 77% boost if you’re successful. Take a look at the table below for more details.

There’s probably an equal amount of good and bad when it comes to the Mr. Play Sportsbook. There’s some aspects we really like, such as the number of sports and events available to bet on. If you’re into Esports betting, there is a great amount of choice. There are also sports you’re unlikely to see at many other operators, Stock Car Racing and Floorball being two of these.
There are some really disappointing aspects though, too. Firstly, betting margins, especially on high profile football matches. We calculated the pre-match margins on a number of English Premier League matches and they all exceeded 9%, which is extremely high.
Using a Debit card for either deposits or withdrawals will result in a fee being charged, with is hugely disappointing to find. There are far better bookmakers who don’t charge a fee no matter which method you use.
The lack of live streaming in itself isn’t so bad, there are numerous bookmakers who don’t offer this feature, but added to an already disappointing experience means its absence is more noticeable. The in-play animations also fall far short of what’s available elsewhere.
So, some decent aspects but leaving a lot to be desired, we can only give Mr. Play a 2/5 rating.
