About Skybet
Skybet can trace its roots all the way back to July 2000 when BSkyB acquired “Sports Internet Group” which included several small telephone and online sports betting companies. They were rebranded in July 2002 to create Sky Bet. The company grew in December 2006 when established online betting companies Total Bet and UK Betting were acquired. Over the years the company went from strength to strength and by 2015 Sky plc sold an 80 per cent stake in the company to CVC Capital Partners for £600 million. Sky retained a 20% stake in the company and agreed to a long-term licence of the Sky brand. In 2018, CVC and Sky agreed to sell Sky Betting & Gaming to The Stars Group for £3.4 billion, which was then acquired by Flutter Entertainment in 2020 and they are the current owners today.

How to place a bet at Skybet
Placing a bet at Skybet is incredibly simple, and can be done by following these steps:
- If you only know the name of the team or individual that you want to bet on then enter their name into the seach box as shown below at “A”. Alternatively if you know the sport, league, or competition the match is taking place in, or you just want to browse the options and the odds, you can navigate yourself to the various different sports shown at area “B”.

Live Betting / In Play betting at Skybet
Live betting can make watching a live sporting event even more exciting and engaging. As more and more betting sites offer their customers In Play betting, Skybet is keeping up with the best and doing the same.
As with all things in life, there are pros and cons when it comes to live betting. In the table below, we summarise some of the positive and negative aspects of in play betting.
In Play Betting Pros and Cons
How to bet In Play at Skybet
At Skybet there are a number of different sports which you can bet on In Play. These include football, cricket, tennis, basketball, table tennis and volleyball.
To consider the quality of the In Play betting availability at Skybet, let’s take a look at the odds available for an English Premier League match. For this example, we’ll focus on Newcastle vs West Ham.
Pre-match, there were 129 different markets to bet on, with countless selections within those. Available markets included Total Goals, Match Shots on Target, Player To Be Sent Off, Correct Score, To Score or Assist and many more, including RequestABet selections.
Taking a closer look at the Full Time Result market, pre-match the odds on Newcastle to win were 4/9 (1.44), with West Ham to win at 19/4 (5.75) and odds of 18/5 (4.6) on a draw. This means that pre-match, the bet margin was 8.38%.
Once the match had started, there were still an impressive 93 markets available, including some specials markets. The odds had changed to 6/4 (2.5) on Newcastle to win, 13/8 (2.63) on West Ham to win and 9/4 (3.25) for the draw. This means the In-Play bet margin was 8.86%. This shows that the odds quality in play is broadly the same as it is pre-match.
Live streaming at Skybet
There is plenty of choice when it comes to watching live video streams at Skybet. A particular plus point is that you simply need to be logged in to your Skybet account to watch the live streams; there is no need to place a bet or have a funded account. We found live video streams available for horse racing, Dutch football, Polish football, Danish football, Romanian football, tennis, cricket and snooker when we logged in to our account on a Monday evening. Streams were high quality and enjoyable to watch.
In Play betting at Skybet Conclusion
In conclusion, it is great that there are plenty of events with live streaming available, and that all customers have the ability to watch said live streams without having to make a deposit. However, for those events that do not have a live stream, there is little to engage or entertain punters. Some football matches do have live streamed graphics and stats available, so it is at least possible to follow the events of those.
Skybet Mobile App review
The Skybet app is functional and clear to look at. While it is pretty bland in terms of appearance, it is at least easy to navigate and placing a bet is a smooth process, although you do need to manually click on the bet slip icon at the bottom of the screen to view the betslip and complete your bet, once you have made your odds selection.
In Play markets are easy to find, with live streamed events clearly indicated by the green play symbol. Live streaming via the app is good, with high quality video akin to watching the usual tv streaming apps.
Promotions are also easy to locate, with the Skybet loyalty club available for app users to take advantage of.
Overall, a good, though not particularly exciting, app betting experience.

Pros & Cons of the App vs the Desktop site
Generally, the Skybet app and desktop site are pretty much the same and most functionality is similar in terms of navigating the site and locating the different features. However, one advantage we noticed about the Skybet app is that the live video streams can be made full screen, which is not possible on the desktop site. We found that this made for a better viewing experience, but of course there are advantages to having the In Play odds visible alongside the video stream, as it is on the desktop version. This is still an option in the app, though.
Overall, aside from this we feel that which is better is a matter of the punter’s personal preference.
Skybet Bonuses for UK Players
Skybet offer both new and existing customers a range of different promotions to enhance their betting experience. We take a look at what is currently available.

SkyBet Research Results
Conclusion & Rating
In conclusion, while the Skybet betting site isn’t the most visually appealing of bookmakers, it is easy to view and navigate. While the aesthetics may not draw you in, the generous welcome bonus will; the requirement for new customers to bet just five pence in order to receive £40 in Free bets is the lowest we’ve seen anywhere.
In addition to this, Skybet offer a number of Free to Play promotions alongside their other offers for existing customers, as well as the Sky Bet Club loyalty club, which provides returning bettors with regular rewards.
The live video streaming capabilities at Skybet are another plus, with a wider range of video streams available here than at many of their competitors.
Odds value could be better, but similar value for money is offered both In-Play and pre-match, so Skybet are at least consistent.
