Barcelona vs Eintracht Frankfurt (Champions League): odds and picks 09.12.2025

High-stakes match at Camp Nou: final day of the Champions League group stage with a lot at stake for both sides. The context is clear: Barça are very strong at home, coming off the back of big wins in La Liga (5-3 against Betis, 3-1 against Atlético, 3-1 against Alavés) and needing three points to get closer to the top eight after their slip-up at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
Opposite them, Eintracht Frankfurt are in dire straits: 6-0 in Leipzig in their last Bundesliga match and only one win in five Champions League games (5-1 against Galatasaray, but then heavy defeats against Atlético, Liverpool and Atalanta). In addition, they are without their two leading strikers, Burkardt and Batshuayi, which completely changes their game plan.
FC Barcelona
I have been following Flick’s Barça closely for some time and the feeling is that the team is in great form offensively, although there are doubts about their European form. In their last six official matches, they have five wins and only one defeat, the 3-0 loss at Stamford Bridge. In La Liga, they are coming off 5-3 wins over Betis, 3-1 over Atlético and 3-1 over Alavés, with an average of nearly 3.5 goals per game.
In the Champions League, the picture is more mixed: a 2-1 defeat to PSG, a 6-1 thrashing of Olympiakos, a 3-3 draw in Bruges and a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. In other words, only one win in their last four European games, but with all their matches exceeding the 2.5-goal line.
At home, Barça have been a steamroller this season: they have won all their recent home games, often by two or more goals, and have scored in all of them. More than 90% of their total matches end with more than 2.5 goals and all their home games feature Barça goals.
In terms of names, a very recognisable starting eleven is expected: Joan García in goal, Koundé, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín and Balde at the back; Eric García and Pedri in midfield, with Lamine Yamal as attacking midfielder, and Lewandowski, Raphinha and Roony Bardghji up front. The strong point is obvious: a lot of firepower, with players coming in from the second line and very vertical wingers. The weakness remains the same: the defence suffers in Europe when the team is disorganised, as we have already seen against PSG, Bruges and Chelsea.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht arrive at the Camp Nou ‘wounded’ and in low spirits. In the Bundesliga, they are coming off a 6-0 defeat in Leipzig, a result that has exposed all their defensive shortcomings: they have the worst defence in the league with 29 goals conceded. The heavy defeat has set off alarm bells in the club, and Toppmöller himself has spoken of ‘humiliation’ and a lack of intensity.
In the Champions League, their record explains why they are under so much pressure: they started with an exciting 5-1 win over Galatasaray, but have since picked up just one point in four games, with some heavy defeats: 5-1 at the Metropolitano, 1-5 against Liverpool, 0-3 against Atalanta and a 0-0 draw in Naples as their only respite. It is a team that creates chances but breaks down easily; its last few games have averaged more than five goals in total, with 2.33 for and 2.83 against.
The big key, for me, is that they are without pure strikers: Jonathan Burkardt is still out and Batshuayi was injured in the Leipzig defeat. In addition, Knauff has been out with illness. That forces them to reinvent their attack by using wingers, attacking midfielders and second-line players. The problem is that, at the same time, the defence is being overwhelmed in transition and from set pieces.
As visitors in Europe, Eintracht are leaking goals: 5-1 at the Metropolitano, 0-0 in Naples and the recent 6-0 defeat in Leipzig. When the opposition presses, they suffer greatly at the back.
Referee: Davide Massa
The designated referee is Italian Davide Massa, a referee with considerable experience in UEFA competitions. This is the first time he has refereed Barça in Europe and also his debut at the Camp Nou in a Champions League match, although he has already refereed Spanish teams this season.
Massa is a medium-high card referee: his recent numbers are around 4-4.5 yellow cards per game and close to 0.2 red cards, both in national leagues and European competitions. In the 2025/26 Champions League, he has refereed three games with six yellow cards and one red card.
He does have a history with Eintracht: he has already refereed the Germans twice in Europe, both times resulting in defeat and with a balance of five yellow cards and one red card for the Frankfurt team. In context, I see this as a match prone to cards for the visitors.
