Which winning runs stand out?
Saints’ four successive victories set the standard for sustained Grand Final success. Leeds achieved three consecutive wins from 2007 to 2009, beating St Helens every time.
Hull KR’s 24-6 victory over Wigan in 2025 made them the first new Grand Final winners since Leeds in 2004. That 21-year gap explains why their breakthrough mattered beyond east Hull.
For me, that is the defining statistic: reaching Old Trafford was difficult enough; breaking the established winners’ hold proved harder still.
Why are 1996 and 1997 missing?
Super League began in 1996, but its Grand Final arrived two years later. St Helens won the 1996 championship and Bradford the 1997 title by finishing top of the league.
That makes Saints ten-time Super League champions but nine-time Grand Final winners. Bradford have four Super League titles, including three Grand Final victories. Mixing those measures produces misleading rankings.
Grand Final 2026 odds: who joins the winners’ list?
Warrington face Wakefield on 3 October at Old Trafford, with kick-off at 6pm BST. Neither has won a Super League Grand Final, so a sixth champion is guaranteed.
