Espanyol host Real Madrid with a lot at stake. Manolo González’s side, who have not won a single match in the second half of the season, have gone from fighting for European places to battling against relegation.

They currently have 39 points, five clear of the relegation zone. The truth is that a win or two draws could see them safe, though to achieve that they must step up. And they face no easier of opponents.

Real Madrid know that if they don’t win, Barcelona could be crowned champions and they’ll have to form a guard of honour for them next week at the Camp Nou. Furthermore, with no midweek fixture, Arbeloa is expected to field his strongest line-up.

For all these reasons, I’m backing a Real Madrid win.
