Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen (Premier League Darts): odds and bets 14.05.2026

This is a classic Premier League tie: first to six legs, bright lights, and it can swing on a single missed dart at double or one burst of heavy scoring. In Birmingham, starts matter — if you give up an early break, you’re suddenly chasing the match with very little runway to recover.

For me, it’s also “emotion vs control”. Price is at his best when he builds momentum and turns the leg into a pressure cooker with big visits. Van Gerwen is more surgical: he’ll ride out a rough patch, stay composed, and trust his finishing in the moments that decide matches. With play-off positions on the line, both have plenty at stake — just in slightly different ways.

Gerwyn Price

Price in this format is always dangerous because he can put a match out of reach in five minutes if the scoring lands. When he’s firing, the pattern is familiar: strong first nine darts, constant 140 pressure, and then clean-up on the outer ring before the opponent can breathe. In a short race to six, that kind of “front-running” profile is gold.

The question mark — and it’s been the theme in some of his recent Premier League nights — is what happens when the doubles don’t cooperate early. Price can still outscore anyone, but if he misses the first chance to break and you see that flash of frustration, it can tighten the arm on the next visit. Against Van Gerwen, that’s the danger zone, because MVG punishes hesitation better than anyone.

Tactically, I’m watching whether Price can keep his tempo consistent. If he starts briskly and takes the first break, he often turns the match into a sequence where every Van Gerwen hold feels under threat. If he has to chase, he can still get there — but the path becomes far less comfortable.

Michael van Gerwen

Van Gerwen is still the benchmark for closing out tight legs under pressure. Even on nights where he’s not producing outrageous averages, he finds a way to win the ugly legs: a timely 121, a 14-darter against the throw, a calm two-dart finish when the opponent gets twitchy. In Premier League darts, that’s a massive edge.

I also tend to like MVG’s chances the longer the match stays level. If it’s 2–2 or 3–3, he’s generally the calmer operator in the last third of the contest. He doesn’t need everything to click — he just needs a couple of legs where his scoring spikes and his doubling is decisive. And if he starts hitting maximums at a decent rate, it increases the number of “one-visit” legs, which puts immediate stress on Price’s finishing.

The main risk for MVG is a flat start. If Price comes out swinging and grabs an early break, Van Gerwen can run out of time to turn it around. But if he weathers the opening storm, I rate him highly to be the better closer.

Gerwyn Price to win

Odds 4/5

I’m leaning Price here because in a first-to-six, I prefer backing the player who can impose a spell of dominance without needing help. Price’s pressure scoring can force MVG into awkward positions on the doubles, and if Price gets that first break, he’s very capable of riding the momentum and not letting the match settle.

Correct Score – Michael van Gerwen 6–4

Odds 13/2

This is my “script” bet if you see the match tightening. I can picture Price starting well, maybe even looking the sharper scorer, but MVG stays attached, nicks an important break back, and then edges the late legs with cleaner finishing. I prefer 6–4 rather than 6–5 because if Van Gerwen wins it, I can see him closing with a bit of authority once he’s got a read on Price’s pace and settles into his own rhythm.
