Gian van Veen vs Dirk van Duijvenbode (World Grand Prix) Odds and Bets 29.09.2026

There are matches that need no introduction – simply because of who is playing and recent history. This is one such match: Gian Van Veen and Dirk Van Duijvenbode faced each other in the quarter-finals of the World Series Finals in Amsterdam last week, and the world number three came out on top 10–8 in a thrilling match. On Tuesday, they’ll be repeating the scenario, and it remains to be seen whether the result will turn out to be identical.
Van Veen is on the best run of his career. Ranked third in the world, a finalist in the last World Championship against Littler, a semi-finalist in the World Matchplay and with a European title already in his trophy cabinet, the 24-year-old Dutchman has established himself amongst the sport’s elite with hardly a blip over the past year. There is just one anomaly in his recent record: in his three appearances at this Grand Prix, he has never progressed beyond the round of 32 – a statistic that stands in stark contrast to everything else and which probably has more to do with tough draws than any real problem adapting to the format of compulsory doubles to open and close the match.
Van Duijvenbode, for his part, reached the World Series Finals as a last-minute replacement following Man Lok Leung’s withdrawal due to illness, and even with that almost impromptu entry, he still managed to reach the quarter-finals, losing only to Van Veen. He is not a player who crumbles under pressure at events of this calibre: he was a finalist in this very tournament in 2020, and has recently regained much of his best form, with a semi-final appearance at the last World Matchplay that served as a reminder of why he once ranked in the world’s top ten. His current ranking of 23 falls short when he switches into competitive mode. He is a player prone to streaks, but dangerous when he is on form.
Taking all this into account, the balance tips in Van Veen’s favour. A player enjoying the best season of his career faces one who needs to string together sporadic runs of form to stand up to the best, with the result from just a week ago reinforcing that view. It’s not a close match, as Van Duijvenbode has already shown in Amsterdam that he can compete on equal terms, but the world number three is the clear favourite. We’re going for his victory at odds of 1.53 on BetVictor Bookmaker as our main bet and the -1.5 handicap as a riskier option at 2.62.
