Nations Championship, 20:10 @ 06.11.2026

Ireland welcome Argentina to the Aviva Stadium on Friday, 6 November, for Round 4 of the 2026 Nations Championship. Andy Farrell’s side won two of their three July Tests, while Los Pumas collected one victory.

The hosts are favourites, but Argentina’s attacking performances suggest this could be competitive. Ireland’s home advantage gives them the edge, although several important injuries leave Farrell with selection decisions. I’m backing the Irish to win, with a wider winning margin offering the bigger-priced alternative.

How Are Ireland and Argentina Playing?

Ireland Form: Home Advantage Despite Key Injuries

Ireland collected two wins from their opening three Nations Championship matches in July. Farrell’s side began with a narrow 33-31 victory against Australia in Sydney before beating Japan 36-20. However, their final July fixture ended in a disappointing 40-21 defeat against New Zealand at Eden Park. Ireland scored 90 points across those matches but conceded 91, highlighting both their attacking potential and defensive inconsistencies. Their preparation for Argentina has been complicated by injuries. Caelan Doris, Jack Crowley, Jack Conan and Garry Ringrose are unavailable, leaving gaps across the forwards and backs.

Dan Sheehan will captain the squad, while the returns of Andrew Porter, Ryan Baird and Mack Hansen provide some encouragement. Ireland still possess the structure, kicking game and set-piece quality to control long periods, particularly on home soil.

Argentina Form: Dangerous Attack, Inconsistent Results

Argentina’s July Nations Championship campaign produced one victory and two defeats. Los Pumas opened with a 47-38 loss against Scotland before responding with a convincing 35-21 win over Wales. They then pushed England throughout their final fixture, eventually losing 31-24. Despite winning only once, Argentina scored 97 points across those three matches, averaging more than 32 per game.

Their attacking ambition remains a major strength, particularly when they can play quickly and challenge opposition defences around the breakdown. However, Santiago Carreras is unavailable after suffering a serious knee injury. His absence reduces Argentina’s options at fly-half and full-back. Felipe Contepomi’s side have enough quality to challenge Ireland, but their defensive record leaves the hosts opportunities to exploit.

Key Factors Behind My Ireland vs Argentina Prediction

  1. Ireland’s Home Advantage: The Aviva Stadium provides Farrell’s side with familiar conditions and strong support. Their territorial kicking and set-piece organisation should help establish control.
  2. Important Irish Absences: Doris, Crowley, Conan and Ringrose are unavailable. Their absence forces changes to several established combinations.
  3. Argentina’s Attacking Quality: Los Pumas scored 97 points in three July fixtures, including 38 against Scotland and 24 against England.
  4. Defensive Performances: Both teams conceded more than 30 points per game during July. Improving their defensive organisation will be particularly important.
  5. The Winning-Margin Market: Ireland are strong favourites, but Argentina’s attacking potential makes the handicap interesting. I’m taking the straightforward home win as my main selection.

Argentina actually scored seven more points than Ireland during the opening three rounds, despite winning fewer matches. Both sides also conceded heavily, with Ireland allowing 91 points and Argentina 99. Every July fixture involving either team produced more than 53.5 total points, suggesting both attacks are capable of creating opportunities. However, Ireland’s stronger results and home advantage make them my preferred team to support.

Ireland vs Argentina Head-to-Head

Ireland won the most recent meeting 22-19 in Dublin in November 2024. Argentina pushed the hosts throughout that encounter, demonstrating their ability to compete against Ireland away from home. That narrow result provides useful context, although both squads have changed since their last meeting.

Ireland are clear favourites at 2/9, reflecting their home advantage and stronger July results. Argentina are available at 16/5, while the draw is priced at 22/1. Los Pumas possess enough attacking quality to keep the contest interesting, but Ireland’s experience and territorial control make a home victory my preferred selection.

Ireland vs Argentina Alternative Betting Odds

The handicap, total-points and winning-margin markets provide several alternatives to the outright result.

Ireland -10.5 at 10/11 is one option for those expecting a comfortable home victory, while Argentina +10.5 at 4/5 covers a closer contest. The total-points market is also interesting. Every July Nations Championship match involving either side produced more than 53.5 points. For a bigger return, Ireland to Win by 15+ Points at 7/5 is my alternative selection, particularly if the hosts establish control through their forwards. All prices are indicative and may change before kick-off. Ireland to Win

Odds 1/4

I'm sticking with Ireland here. Dublin should give them the edge, and even with a few big names missing, they've got the structure to get the job done. Argentina will make them work for it, but I fancy the hosts to come through.

Ireland to Win by 15+ Points

Odds 7/5

I'm backing Ireland to pull clear. Argentina can score, no doubt, but if the Irish pack gets on top and the hosts start winning territory, I can see this opening up after the break. Give me Ireland by 15 or more.
