How County Championship Points Work
A victory earns 16 points. A tie or draw gives each side eight, with first-innings bonus points added separately. Batting points are available during the first 110 overs:
- 250 runs: one point
- 300 runs: two
- 350 runs: three
- 400 runs: four
- 450 runs: five
Bowling sides receive one point for taking three to five wickets, two for six to eight and three for nine or ten. A team can therefore collect up to 24 points from one match. That makes the current five-point spread far less comfortable than it appears.
