Harry Kane responds to FC Barcelona rumours: It’s a compliment

Harry Kane has responded to rumours linking him with FC Barcelona, acknowledging interest as a “compliment” although he insists his full focus remains with Bayern Munich.
With Barça holding presidential elections in March, candidates are scampering to make bold promises in a bid to help them over the line, despite the club’s well-document financial crisis.
One presidential candidate, Xavier Vilajoana, went as far as posting an edited image of the England captain in Barcelona colours.
Vilajoana claimed to have made preliminary contact as part of his long-term transfer vision, identifying Kane as an “idealistic fit” for Barcelona.
However, Kane insisted that he knows nothing about any approach and remains firmly focused on his job at the Bundesliga giants.
Speaking after scoring twice in Bayern Munich‘s 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Kane appeared genuinely bemused by the speculation.
“I haven’t heard anything about that. My father and brother are taking care of these things, but they haven’t told me anything,” Kane said.
“As I’ve already said, I’m very happy here at Bayern. My focus is on this season and here at Bayern. I’ll take that as a compliment!”
Twenty-eight goals and counting in record chase
The 32-year-old’s primary concern appears to be chasing down Robert Lewandowski‘s single-season Bundesliga record of 41 goals, set in 2020/21 when the current Barcelona striker surpassed Gerd Müller‘s legendary 40-goal mark.
Kane’s current tally of 28 goals leaves him needing 14 more across Bayern’s remaining 11 league fixtures, a demanding but achievable target given his extraordinary form.
Averaging a goal every 66.3 minutes, Kane has already surpassed the 26 goals that earned him last season’s Golden Boot.
Since joining from Tottenham ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, he’s amassed 90 goals for Bayern, comprehensively validating the substantial investment the German giants made.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund recently addressed Kane’s contractual situation with notable calm, despite the striker having just 18 months remaining on his current deal.
His relaxed approach suggests confidence that Kane‘s contentment in Munich makes contract extension negotiations straightforward when the time arrives.
“He still has a year-and-a-half left on his contract,” Freund explained. “He feels extremely comfortable here. We’re not stressing about it. He should continue as he is and continue to feel so comfortable with his family in Munich. Then he can stay in Munich for a long time.”
Vilajoana’s status as merely a presidential candidate rather than Barcelona’s current leader raises questions about whether his claims reflect genuine preliminary contact or campaign rhetoric designed to excite supporters ahead of elections.
Presidential hopefuls frequently make grand transfer promises that prove impossible once elected, discovering financial reality doesn’t align with campaign ambitions.
