Mo Salah goal drought

Liverpool left the City Ground with three points on Sunday, but Mohamed Salah left with more questions. A late winner against Nottingham Forest spared the Reds from dropped points, yet it did little to mask what has become an unfamiliar storyline on Merseyside, with Salah enduring the longest Premier League goal drought of his career.

The Egyptian has not scored in the league since November 1. After another blank on Sunday, that run now stretches to nine consecutive matches, a stark contrast to the relentless consistency that defined his prime years in England.

Salah has scored just seven times in 28 games across all competitions this season, with only four of these goals coming in the Premier League.

Against Forest, the numbers were telling, as he registered zero shots and just one chance created with a pass completion rate of 69 percent.

Liverpool ultimately found a late winner through Alexis Mac Allister, but Salah’s contribution was minimal.

His withdrawal has shown the shift in dynamics under Arne Slot, with whom reports have suggested tension during a season that has seen the forward’s status quietly recalibrated.

This nine-game drought represents the longest of his Premier League career. It is not simply the absence of goals but the broader dip in influence that has concerned observers. Performances once defined by explosive acceleration and clinical finishing now feature fewer decisive moments.

Set to face one of his favourite opponents

The promising news for Salah is that he has the chance to avoid a 10-game drought against one of his favourite opponents in West Ham United, who visit Anfield on Saturday.

For years, Salah has set the standard for wide forwards in England. His scoring records against elite opposition illustrate that dominance.

He has netted 16 goals against rivals Manchester United, more than against any other club during his Liverpool tenure, as Tottenham Hotspur are the only side he has scored as many against across his career.

Manchester City and West Ham follow closely, with 13 goals each conceded to the Egypt international. Having secured their third straight victory across all competitions, Liverpool are now set to face the Hammers on home soil, offering Salah an opportunity to break his duck against the London-based side.

Following their 0-0 draw at home against Bournemouth, third-bottom West Ham have trimmed their deficit from Nottingham Forest to just two points thanks to Mac Allister’s late clincher on Sunday.
