Spanish Grand Prix 2026: Madring Debut, Schedule and Weather

Formula 1 cars racing at Madring in Madrid

The Spanish Grand Prix 2026 is not arriving quietly. Formula 1 lands at Madring for the first time this weekend, putting the field onto fresh asphalt with no race data or tyre history. Our guide to the Madring F1 circuit breaks down what drivers will face around the new Madrid track, but the bigger question is who will understand it fastest when simulation finally meets tarmac.

Madrid Grand Prix schedule: UK times

Madring hosts a conventional three-practice weekend from 11–13 September. The 57-lap race starts at 14:00 BST on Sunday.

Friday afternoon should be revealing. Teams need representative long runs before committing to race set-ups on a 5.416km, 22-corner circuit they have never raced.

Madring F1 is an opening night with consequences

New circuits have a peculiar glamour: immaculate kerbs, clean concrete and a paddock pretending its simulations have solved the place. Then Friday arrives and the track starts arguing back. Madring mixes long straights, heavy braking and La Monumental, a roughly 550-metre banked curve with a 24% gradient. It looks built for photographs; for engineers, it is an exercise in discovering which assumptions were wrong.

Carlos Sainz became the first Formula 1 driver to sample the completed asphalt in a sports car and singled out La Monumental as the section that stayed with him.

Turn 1 has also been identified as one of the clearest overtaking opportunities.

Spanish GP weather: heat may matter more than rain

The latest Spanish GP weather forecast points to sunshine across all three days, with temperatures around 32C and little sign of rain. Attention therefore turns to tyre temperature and degradation.

Pirelli has selected the C2, C3 and C4 compounds. Simulations put tyre loads in the same broad territory as Silverstone and Spa, while the range is intended to leave room for a two-stop race. On hot new asphalt, Friday’s most useful answer may be how quickly tyres overheat in traffic.

Where could the race open up?

Turn 1 is the obvious braking-zone target, but Madring F1 should not be reduced to one corner. La Monumental may allow different approaches through its banking, while the slower final sector should reward traction and punish cars that cannot stay close in dirty air.

Safety is another unknown. F3 running has already tested barriers, medical and recovery procedures, communications and race-control systems under live conditions. Formula 1 now brings much greater speed and load.

Spanish Grand Prix odds: Antonelli sets the reference

DAZN Bet’s latest pre-practice race-winner snapshot makes Kimi Antonelli the favourite. The fractional prices below are conversions of the available market and should be checked again after Friday running.

Betting before practice demands restraint rather than false certainty. Our is the better starting point for understanding where those prices could move once the cars reveal their strengths.

What to watch first on Friday

Forget the headline lap for a moment. Watch long-run tyre drop-off, braking confidence into Turn 1 and whether cars can follow through La Monumental without overheating the fronts. On a debut weekend, learning speed can matter almost as much as car speed.
