International Friendly, 20:00 @ 07.06.2026

Morocco and Norway face off in a very interesting friendly as part of their World Cup preparations, with one detail that I consider significant: the match is being played on neutral ground in the United States (Harrison, New Jersey). In this sort of scenario, the crowd factor is somewhat reduced and what matters most is competitive seriousness and the match plan, especially when substitutions are made.

The key will be how the pace of the game is managed. Morocco usually feels comfortable when they can run with their wing-backs and attack spaces; Norway, when they find opportunities to get their forwards involved quickly with few touches. If there’s an early goal, I see a fairly open game; if the first half is tight, it could become more tactical with fewer clear-cut chances than the names of both sides might suggest.

Morocco

Morocco arrive in high spirits. They’re coming off a 4-0 win over Madagascar in a recent friendly, and beyond the scoreline, I liked the message: high intensity, quick ball movement and, above all, a hunger to launch repeated attacks without losing their shape. It’s a side that, when they take the lead, doesn’t settle for sitting on the result; they usually keep looking for a second goal to give themselves some breathing space.

Their identity is heavily defined by the flanks: if Hakimi and co. find space down the wings, Morocco are a team that force you to retreat towards your own area time and again. Furthermore, they possess talent in the spaces between the lines to link up play and deliver the final pass, and in friendlies this often makes the difference because the opposition rotates and defensive misalignments occur.

The thing to watch out for, in my opinion, is what happens when they lose the ball on the break. If Morocco stretch themselves too thin, they can concede counter-attacks where they struggle because there is space behind the full-backs. In a friendly, that lapse of concentration lasting 5–10 minutes is more common than it seems. Even so, if they keep their block compact and press after losing possession, I think they’re a very difficult team to dominate.

Norway

Norway are in good form and have a very recognisable style: direct play, power up front and the ability to punish opponents as soon as they break down. They are coming off a 3-1 win over Sweden, a match in which they made it clear that, even without dominating possession, they can cause damage through a series of attacks and their finishing.

What convinces me most about Norway is that they have several ways of creating danger: they don’t rely solely on a ‘Plan A’. They can attack with a centre-forward who holds up the ball and plays it out, they can run with wingers who take you on, and they also hurt you from set pieces. In friendlies, where defensive organisation often breaks down in the second half following substitutions, Norway are one of the teams that make the most of that scenario.

Where do I see the risk? In their midfield organisation when the opposition forces them to defend deeper. If Norway sit too deep, they can give away second balls and allow constant crosses from the flanks. Against Morocco, that’s dangerous, because the Moroccans push you relentlessly down the wings. But if Norway hold their midfield block and break quickly after winning the ball, I think they have a good chance of not losing.

Double chance: Norway or Draw

Odds 2/5

As this is a friendly on neutral ground, I prefer to go with this option, because the match also looks fairly even. Norway are in good form and, given their style, tend to be quite consistent. Their attacking potential guarantees they’ll be looking for a good result, but X2 makes more sense to me to cover us in the event of a draw, which is a possibility given the context of a pre-season friendly.

Norway to win + Over 2.5 goals

Odds 9/4

Morocco are coming off a 4-0 win and tend to attack with a lot of players. Norway are lethal when they find space and have attacking options like Haaland and Sorloth, though we don’t yet know if they’ll start. If there’s an early goal, it’s much easier, and if Norway capitalise on one of those lapses in concentration typical of friendlies – such as a flurry of substitutions – I think we’ll see goals.
