Colombia and Ghana face off in the final round of 32 match at the 2026 World Cup. The Colombian side go into the match as group winners following a very strong group stage, whilst Ghana progressed to this round as one of the best third-placed teams after competing in a tough group, although their performances have been somewhat inconsistent.

Colombia

Colombia have been one of the teams to have made the best impression so far. They kicked off with a 1–3 victory over Uzbekistan, then narrowly beat Congo in a match they could have won more comfortably, and rounded off the group stage with a draw against Portugal that secured top spot.

That final match was particularly significant. Portugal needed to win to finish top of the group, but Colombia did not simply sit back and defend their lead. They controlled much of the match and even came close to victory with a goal from Davinson Sánchez in the closing stages, which was ruled out for a very tight offside.

The Colombian side are showing balance across all areas of the pitch. Defensively, they look solid, with players such as Davinson Sánchez and Lucumí, whilst in attack they have a standout player in Luis Díaz. The winger is in fine form following a spectacular season at Bayern Munich and is one of Colombia’s main assets as they aim to make their mark at this World Cup. Furthermore, players such as Daniel Muñoz and Luis Suárez also contribute greatly to a cohesive, intense and competitive team.

Ghana

Ghana’s form has gone from strength to strength in the tournament. They started by beating Panama with a 95th-minute goal, in a match where they had a bit of luck, and then secured a well-deserved draw against England. That 0–0 result was significant, as Ghana managed to hold off one of the major title contenders.

On the final matchday, however, they lost 2–1 to Croatia. Ghana managed to equalise in the closing stages, but Croatia ultimately drew on their experience in such situations.

This is a more modest side than Colombia, but they are a tricky, physical team with some interesting attacking players. Semenyo, Iñaki Williams and the veteran Ayew are among their key players. They do not look like an easy opponent, especially as they have already shown they can close down spaces effectively and compete against top-class sides.

Our prediction: Colombia to qualify, over 0.5 goals and under 4.5 goals in the match (odds 1.50)

In my view, Colombia are favourites to progress from this tie. They’re in better form, have been more consistent throughout the group stage and have the footballing quality to make the difference.

Even so, I’m not entirely confident about a Colombian victory within 90 minutes. Ghana are a tough side and have already shown against England that they can make any match very difficult. That’s why I prefer to back Colombia to qualify, whether in normal time, extra time or even on penalties.

As for goals, I think Colombia should be capable of scoring at least one, but I don’t expect a rout either. Given the form of both teams and the nature of a knockout tie, I reckon it’s quite likely there’ll be a goal, but the scoreline won’t be too lopsided.
