LASK vs Celtic Prediction (Champions League) Odds and Bets 25.08.2026

Celtic travel to Linz with one foot in the Champions League league phase after winning 3-0 at home, but the scoreline at Celtic Park does not tell the full story.
LASK posed a real threat, had two goals ruled out and actually registered more shots and a higher xG than the Scottish champions. That matters ahead of the return leg. The Austrians have no option but to chase the tie, while Celtic should be able to attack the spaces that inevitably open up behind them.

How LASK and Celtic are shaping up
LASK form
I would be careful about judging LASK purely on that 3-0 defeat in Glasgow. Dietmar Kühbauer’s side had been in excellent form beforehand, opening their competitive season with a 7-0 cup win before beating Grazer AK 3-0, Austria Vienna 2-0 and Ried 4-1. That is 16 goals across four victories before Celtic brought the run to an abrupt halt.
More importantly, LASK were not comprehensively outplayed in the first leg. They registered 20 shots to Celtic’s 17, with eight on target, and generated roughly 1.75 xG compared with Celtic’s 0.87. They also had two goals ruled out for offside. The obvious difference was efficiency: Celtic took their chances and LASK paid the price.
LASK need at least three goals simply to force extra time, so I expect a far more aggressive approach at home rather than a patient European set-up.
Celtic form
Celtic arrive in Austria with four wins from their four competitive matches this season: 1-0 against Dundee, 5-1 against Kilmarnock, 4-0 away to Dundee United and the 3-0 victory over LASK.
What impressed me most in the first leg was not Celtic’s territorial dominance, because LASK created enough to make them uncomfortable, but the quality of their finishing. Benjamin Nygren opened the scoring before Camilo Durán struck twice, with all three goals coming from high-quality finishes rather than a stream of simple chances. Durán, in particular, looks capable of punishing a defence without needing much space.
Key factors behind my LASK vs Celtic prediction
1. The aggregate score will shape the match
A 0-0 scoreline after half an hour does virtually nothing for LASK. Three goals down, they need to commit heavily to attack. That should stretch the pitch and create exactly the sort of transition situations Celtic’s quick forwards can exploit.
2. LASK were far more dangerous than the first-leg score suggests
The numbers are difficult to ignore. LASK produced 20 attempts, with eight on target, but lacked either precision or a little luck. Celtic scored three despite generating only 0.87 xG. That gap between performance and result is one reason why I would not automatically expect another Celtic clean sheet.
3. Celtic have the perfect scoreline for counter-attacking football
Martin O’Neill does not need his side to dominate possession or force the issue. If LASK push their wing-backs and midfielders higher up the pitch, Celtic can wait for mistakes and release Durán, Kasper Høgh and the supporting runners into space.
4. Both attacks have started the season sharply
Before the first leg, LASK had scored 16 goals in four competitive matches. Celtic have scored 13 across their first four competitive fixtures. The standard of opposition varies, of course, but neither side comes into this tie struggling for attacking rhythm.
5. The market expects LASK to be competitive on the night
There is an important distinction here: Celtic are overwhelming favourites to qualify from the tie, but LASK are still priced as favourites in the 90-minute match market. For me, that reflects both home advantage and the unusual game state. Celtic can afford a draw or even a narrow defeat, while LASK have no choice but to chase the result.
LASK vs Celtic statistics
| Statistic | LASK | Celtic |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregate score | 0 | 3 |
| Competitive record this season | 4W, 1L | 4W, 0L |
| Competitive goals this season | 16 | 13 |
| Goals conceded this season | 4 | 1 |
| First-leg shots | 20 | 17 |
| First-leg shots on target | 8 | 7 |
| First-leg xG | 1.75 | 0.87 |
| First-leg possession | 36% | 64% |
| First-leg big chances | 2 | 1 |
| First-leg disallowed goals | 2 | 0 |
The standout figure is the xG. A 3-0 Celtic win alongside an expected-goals count of roughly 0.87 to 1.75 in LASK’s favour is an unusual combination. For me, it shows how clinical Celtic were in front of goal, but it also warns against the idea that their defence completely shut LASK down.
Head-to-head record
The 3-0 first leg is the only significant recent meeting between the two clubs, although they did also face each other in a friendly more than a decade ago.
LASK vs Celtic match-winner odds
Average 90-minute market prices checked on 24 August. Odds may change before kick-off.
The Celtic price is the one that interests me most. The market clearly expects LASK’s urgency and home advantage to matter, but 19/8 is a sizeable price for a side that has won every competitive match this season and has already shown it can hurt this opponent.
The obvious caveat is that Celtic simply do not need to win the second leg.
