The city of The Beatles welcomes Fulham, with Anfield set for another big Saturday as Liverpool host the Londoners in Matchweek 4 of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

If I were putting my pounds on this one, and I probably will, the contrast looks fairly clear. Liverpool are still unbeaten after three league matches and come into this on the back of wins over Ipswich and Atlético Madrid, while Fulham have lost each of their opening three league games.

The visitors have shown they can create chances, particularly in the 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace, but they have already conceded seven league goals. Liverpool’s short recovery time after playing in Europe on Wednesday is the main reason I am not treating this as a completely straightforward home banker.

How Liverpool and Fulham are coming into the match

Liverpool form

Liverpool remain unbeaten, but they have not needed to dominate every match to do damage. After two 2-2 draws, they won 2-0 at Ipswich with two Isak goals from just 0.69 xG, a good example of the cutting edge they currently have in attack.

The caveat is the schedule. Liverpool beat Atletico 2-1 on Wednesday and come into this with a short turnaround, as well as a few minor fitness concerns. The quality is there; the freshness, perhaps less so.

Fulham form

Fulham arrive with the opposite problem: they are creating more than their points total suggests, but conceding far too much. They have lost all three league matches and let in seven goals, despite producing 3.14 xG and 25 shots against Palace.

Josh King has already scored twice, so the attacking threat is there. The problem is surviving when the opposition turns the tempo up. At Anfield, that weakness could prove very expensive.

Key factors behind my Liverpool vs Fulham prediction

1. Liverpool are finding ways to score

Liverpool have scored six goals across their opening three Premier League matches, hitting two in every game.

They then scored twice again against Atletico Madrid in Europe. Even when the overall performance has not been perfect, their attacking quality has been enough to keep producing goals.

2. Fulham’s attacking numbers are better than their results

This is why I am slightly cautious about markets that require Liverpool to keep a clean sheet.

Fulham produced 3.14 xG and 25 shots against Palace, while Josh King has already scored twice. There is enough attacking quality here to punish a Liverpool defence that conceded twice against both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

3. Fulham’s defensive record is the bigger concern

Seven goals conceded in three Premier League matches is difficult to ignore.

Fulham have scored twice at Craven Cottage on two occasions and still come away with nothing. If they give Liverpool the same quality of openings they allowed Chelsea or Palace, the punishment at Anfield could be much harsher.

4. Liverpool’s recovery time matters

There is one obvious argument against getting too carried away with the favourites. Liverpool played Atletico on Wednesday night, while Fulham last played on Saturday.

Add Gakpo’s fitness doubt and Barcola’s limited match sharpness, and I would not automatically expect Liverpool to maintain maximum intensity for the full 90 minutes.

5. The handicap offers the more interesting price

Liverpool’s outright price reflects all of their obvious advantages and leaves very little room for error.

For anyone prepared to accept more variance, I think Liverpool -1.5 is the logical step up rather than moving into a completely different market.

It requires the same match script, only with Liverpool turning their superiority into a win by at least two goals.

Liverpool come in with the stronger results, but the numbers still call for a little caution. Fulham created plenty against Palace, while Liverpool were extremely clinical from limited xG against Ipswich.

That is why I am still siding with the hosts, although I would rather back Liverpool to win than rely on them keeping a clean sheet.

Liverpool vs Fulham head-to-head

The recent meetings have been closer than the odds suggest, although Liverpool won 2-0 at Anfield in the most recent clash.

Even so, I would place much more weight on current form than on the historical record. And, in fairness, that 2-0 scoreline fits quite neatly with the kind of match I can see developing here.

The market makes Liverpool clear favourites, which is difficult to argue with given the gap in results so far.

The more interesting question for me is whether the straight home win is worth taking at such a short price, or whether Liverpool have enough attacking superiority to justify the handicap instead. Current market prices have Liverpool trading comfortably below even money, while a two-goal winning margin sits a little above that mark.

Liverpool to win

Odds 1/2

I’m keeping this one simple. Fulham are creating chances, but seven conceded in three league matches is a dangerous habit to take to Anfield. Liverpool do not need to be flawless here. I just need their extra quality in both boxes to tell.

Liverpool -1.5 Handicap

Odds 6/5

Same script, bigger swing. If Liverpool get ahead early, Fulham cannot afford to sit in and protect anything. That could open the match up nicely. I’m backing the Reds to turn control into a two-goal winning margin.
