What team will claim their first Premier League win of the season? Liverpool welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield in Matchweek 2.

Liverpool came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Newcastle, while Forest lost 1-0 at home to Leeds before suffering another defeat against the same opponents in the Carabao Cup.

For me, the biggest difference is in attack. Liverpool found a way to score twice at St James’ Park, whereas Forest are yet to score in two competitive matches. However, Forest’s recent record at Anfield stops me from being too confident.

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest Form

Liverpool Form

Liverpool began the Iraola era with a thrilling 2-2 draw at Newcastle. They showed plenty of character to recover twice, although they also looked far too vulnerable defensively. Injuries have reduced their options, but they arrive rested and with enough firepower up front.

Nottingham Forest Form

Forest have started with the handbrake on: two defeats against Leeds and no goals in 180 minutes. Liam Delap’s arrival offers some hope, but asking him to fix the attack immediately — and at Anfield — would be expecting too much.

Key Factors Behind My Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Prediction

1. Forest Are Yet to Score

Forest failed to score in either of their first two competitive matches, losing 1-0 and 2-0 to Leeds. I do not like drawing sweeping conclusions from such a small sample, but travelling to Anfield while still searching for your first goal is hardly ideal.

2. Liverpool Have Had Better Preparation

Liverpool played their opening match on Sunday, whereas Forest were back in action in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Glasner made changes, but his side still had another competitive 90 minutes to manage while Liverpool could focus entirely on their first league match at Anfield.

3. Liverpool Have Already Shown They Can Respond

Falling behind twice at Newcastle and still finding two equalisers revealed something useful about Liverpool’s attacking persistence. That willingness to keep applying pressure could prove important against a Forest side likely to spend long periods defending fairly deep.

4. Is There Value in Liverpool’s Price?

Liverpool’s 11/20 price represents an implied probability of roughly 64.5%, before accounting for the bookmaker’s margin. That looks broadly reasonable given their home advantage, Forest’s scoreless start and Liverpool’s extra preparation time. Their defensive performance at Newcastle is what stops me from backing the hosts too aggressively.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Statistics

With the Premier League season only one match old, I would rather use the small sample honestly than present pre-season figures as meaningful league form.

The numbers are limited, but they still reveal a useful contrast. Liverpool have already shown enough going forward to score twice away from home, while Forest have now played 180 competitive minutes without finding the net.

Recent Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Meetings

Last season’s two league meetings produced very different results. Forest secured an excellent 3-0 win at Anfield in November before Liverpool won the return fixture 1-0 at the City Ground in February.

That recent history is worth considering, but I would not read too much into it. Liverpool have since changed manager, while Forest are now working under Glasner.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Odds

Odds checked on 28 August 2026. Prices may change before kick-off.

Nottingham Forest win11/2

Liverpool are clear favourites, as expected, but I would not describe their price as a gift. At 11/20, the market is asking you to trust a side that conceded twice on the opening weekend against opponents who have already shown they can cause Liverpool serious problems at Anfield.

Liverpool to Win

Odds 1/2

I’m keeping this one uncomplicated. Liverpool have the stronger attacking platform, the fresher legs and Anfield behind them. Forest’s recent record here deserves respect, but two games without a goal is enough for me to side with the hosts.

Liverpool to Win to Nil

Odds 19/10

I’ll push the same Liverpool angle a step further. Forest haven’t scored yet and arrive after a draining midweek defeat. Liverpool’s defending worries me more than their attack, but if Iraola tightens that up, the win-to-nil angle has considerably more bite.
