Manchester United vs Manchester City (Premier League) Odds and Bets 13.09.2026

The first Manchester derby of the 2026/27 Premier League season arrives with the two sides in very different positions after three matches.
Manchester City head to Old Trafford with a perfect league record, while Manchester United have taken four points and already shown both sides of their game: dangerous going forward, but far less convincing without the ball.

How Manchester United and Manchester City are shaping up
Manchester United form
United have been one of the league’s harder sides to read so far. A 2-0 defeat at Hull was followed by a 5-2 demolition of Ipswich, before a 2-2 draw at Everton underlined both their attacking threat and defensive vulnerability.
The numbers back that up. United have scored seven goals from 68 attempts, with Bruno Fernandes already on three, but six goals conceded from an estimated 4.1 xG against is the warning sign. They can hurt teams quickly; they can also leave the door wide open.
Then comes the calendar. United face Sabah in the Champions League on Thursday, giving Carrick less than three days to prepare for the derby. Rotation, fatigue and recovery could all become part of the betting equation.
Manchester City form
City arrive with far fewer question marks. Three league games, three wins, seven goals scored and only two conceded, followed by a controlled 2-0 Champions League victory away to Porto.
That Porto performance was particularly convincing: 64% possession, 10 shots on target and none allowed at the other end. Haaland scored both and remains the difference-maker when City turn territorial control into goals.
Maresca’s side have now won four competitive matches in a row and, unlike United, had their European game on Tuesday. That extra recovery time only strengthens the sense that City arrive at Old Trafford fresher, steadier and with more control over their game.
Key factors behind my Manchester derby prediction
1. City’s defensive numbers are clearly stronger
Both sides have scored seven Premier League goals, so there is very little separating them in terms of pure attacking output.
The difference comes at the other end. City have conceded twice; United have let in six. United have enough attacking quality to cause City problems, but they have so far needed to produce plenty going forward because they have not controlled opposition chances reliably enough.
2. United are dangerous in transition
I would not take City’s status as favourites as a sign that this should be a one-sided game.
United have already scored two Opta-classified fast-break goals and can cause problems when Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Bryan Mbeumo are given space to run into. If City commit too many players forward, United have the personnel to punish them.
That is one of the reasons I prefer giving myself a little more protection with the conservative selection.
3. Recovery time favours City
City played Porto on Tuesday night. United face Sabah on Thursday night.
At this stage of the season, I do not think fatigue should automatically decide the result, but having two extra days between European football and a high-intensity derby is still an advantage. United’s team selection on Thursday will be worth checking before placing a bet.
I have not included any unconfirmed injury rumours in my reasoning. Availability should be reassessed once United’s European match has finished and both managers have delivered their final pre-match updates.
4. Haaland’s record against United matters
Haaland has scored eight goals in seven Premier League appearances against Manchester United.
Only two of those have come at Old Trafford, so I would not build the entire bet around his individual record, but his current form is significant. He scored twice against Porto and remains the player most likely to punish the sort of defensive mistakes United have made during the opening weeks.
5. City’s price still leaves room for derby uncertainty
I can see exactly why City are favourites. Three league wins from three, stronger defensive numbers and a more favourable recovery schedule all point in their direction.
What stops me treating the away win as a banker is United’s attacking output. They have registered 19 shots on target, exactly the same total as City after three league matches, and their underlying attacking numbers suggest those four points do not tell the whole story.
Manchester United vs Manchester City statistics
| Statistic | Manchester United | Manchester City |
|---|---|---|
| Premier League record | W1 D1 L1 | W3 D0 L0 |
| Points | 4 | 9 |
| Goals scored | 7 | 7 |
| Goals conceded | 6 | 2 |
| Goal difference | +1 | +5 |
| Shots on target | 19 | 19 |
| Clean sheets | 0 | 1 |
| Both teams scored | 2 of 3 | 2 of 3 |
| Over 2.5 goals | 2 of 3 | 2 of 3 |
United have created plenty, but City have controlled games far better. That defensive edge makes the visitors the more convincing side heading into the derby, even with Old Trafford in the equation.
Manchester United vs Manchester City head-to-head
There have been 58 Premier League Manchester derbies, with United winning 27 and City winning 21. The other 10 ended in draws.
United also won this exact fixture 2-0 last season, a result recent enough to be worth keeping in mind.
This will be the 199th Manchester derby in all competitions.
Manchester United vs Manchester City odds
Current market prices at the time of writing:
City are favourites, but not by enough for the market to treat this as a routine away win. At 11/10, the price reflects their stronger start while still allowing for United’s home advantage and the unpredictability that comes with a derby.
Manchester United vs Manchester City predictions
Manchester City or Draw
I want City on my side, but I also respect what United can do at Old Trafford. City have been cleaner defensively, they arrive with the better recovery schedule and their control in Porto was excellent. Covering the draw keeps me protected if United turn the derby into a much tighter contest.
Manchester City to Win and Over 1.5 Goal
I'm pushing the same City angle rather than changing sides. United have already conceded six league goals and City arrive with Haaland in form, but United carry enough attacking threat to help the total as well. If this opens up after the first goal, I fancy City to make the extra quality count.
