Where the race goes
Lincoln’s opener travels through Market Rasen, Caistor and Ingham before five city laps around Michaelgate. Stage two crosses Horncastle, Louth and Mablethorpe before a likely Skegness sprint. Hull launches the longest stage through Withernsea, Hornsea and Driffield before an uphill drag to Beverley Racecourse.
Then the landscape tightens its grip. Helmsley to Leyburn carries 2,699m of climbing, with Greenhow Bank capable of deciding the race. The finale loops through Kelso, Duns and the Lammermuir Hills. This is British stage racing at its most photogenic and least polite: bunting, elbows in the bunch and postcard country while riders hunt the road that can split the field. Michaelgate supplies the opening theatre, yet Saturday should write the plot.

Tour of Britain riders to watch
The preliminary 106-rider list includes Tom Pidcock, Filippo Ganna, Tim Merlier, Olav Kooij, Tim Wellens, Ben Swift and Ethan Vernon. Pidcock brings the obvious British headline, while Merlier and Kooij give the flatter finishes genuine sprint weight. Treat the list as provisional until the start is confirmed.
